Why I practice & teach Bheemashakti Yoga

Why I practice & teach Bheemashakti Yoga

How did I become a Bheemashakti yogini? On accident actually. After studying yoga for 10 years, I plateaued. Finally, I found a system that worked to open and strengthen my body to be able to do things I never could with Asana practice... like a handstand away from the wall or full lotus. I believe there are many people who practice yoga, even teach yoga, that can relate to my story. I've been all over the West and East Coast studying Bikram, Hatha, Vinyasa, Ashtanga, and Iyengar. After many hours of endless devotion to practice, breathing, dietary changes and mindfulness training, I got stuck. Then I stumbled into Jonathan's Bheemashakti Yoga class and have been a regular with him for the past almost 4 years. If you want to experience why it works, its best just to try it. All I can say is if you practice correctly, there is no reason why your practice should plateau. I found that opening the body deeply in each dimension set the foundation for a rock solid Asana practice. I never set out to teach this kind of yoga. It was just what came naturally because it worked. So why not let others in on the secret?

My Bheemashakti Yoga Story

My Bheemashakti Yoga Story

Before discovering the Bheemashakti Yoga System I sustained a wrist and elbow injury from repeated stress. My career as a hairstylist and years of “Power Yoga” took it's toll and I finally decided enough was enough. Through some sort of universal intervention I was able to meet Jonathan and immediately started practicing with him. My first class I told him of my injury and he assured me that all I needed to do was “energize” my body. Not knowing what he meant, I trusted him and just went along with the program. Soon after, I came to realize all of the different blockages I had in many dimensions of my body (leg and backbend dimensions especially). I was a hot mess!!! Since then I have experienced exponential growth in my physical yoga practice and no more wrist and elbow pain! I credit Jonathan and this system for helping me transform my body and my understanding of yoga asana practice.

My Bheemashakti Yoga Story

My Bheemashakti Yoga Story

Bheemashakti Yoga has changed me in so many ways. From the beginning of going to Jonathan's classes, I felt as if I had infiltrated some underground yoga class where you could explore all the depths of your body. My gut feeling could not have been more right. In Bheemashakti, we learn to use repetitive movements combined with Kapalabhati breathing that gradually and safely open the body in each dimension. I have now been practicing Bheemashakti yoga with Jonathan for over one year, and I have seen so much transformation- not of just my physical body, but of understanding the inner workings of my body's connection to my mind. I have developed a level of comfortability within myself that is remarkable. When I now go to a Vinyasa flow class, I am able to do certain Asanas that I would have never attempted before. Not only am I able to do certain Asanas, but I am able to feel extremely strong and stable in them. Bheemashakti has allowed me to take the focus off of there not being enough strength to hold an Asana, and to be able to focus on my breath at that moment- making my yoga practice more of a moving meditation. I am very grateful to have found Bheemashakti Yoga, and Jonathan. I continue to learn and grow in each class.

My Bheemashakti Yoga Story

I stated training with Jonathan after meeting a student in my Ashtanga Yoga class who had an incredible back bend and had trained with Jonathan. Since I started training, my back bend has gotten alot better, my splits look way better and my Ashtanga postures are also better! I feel the breathing that is taught in this system  enables one to train more instensely yet not get sore as much. I like the way Jonathan explains exactly the step we are supposed to be on and also showing us what comes next. The classes are individualized, ensuring students are working to their maximum potential. Oh, also I had beed struggling for quite some time with hand stands, never quite gaining the confidence to kick up without assistance. The systematic approach tht Jonathan uses enable me to kick up into a hand stand with out assistance in two months. This system is powerful. I feel that with hard work and discipline, I can achieve almost anything with this type of proper training.

Bheemashakti Yoga has opened up my body in a way that I thought would never be possible. Flexibility has always been my weak point and I came to a point to just accept that I would never be able to go any deeper in my body. Well, 10 months of Bheemashakti practice with Jonathan’s guidance has brought me to a whole new level that 10 previous years of Anursara and Vinyasa yoga weren’t able to do. Jonathan’s instructions are gentle and precise and customized towards each individual student. His knowledge of the body is phenomenal and he knows exactly what each student is able to do and when to stop. This systematic build up of the body through the Bheemashakti practice has opened and strenghtend  my body and prepared it so that in other yoga classes I am able to do much more advanced asanas.

I love Bheemashakti Yoga! It has become my favored form of exercise. I have always struggles with feeling insecure about working out. I've tried and quit many different types of exercise classes. Nothing felt good on my body, mind and soul. Bheemashakti is different. The way Jonathan teaches makes working out seem so doable, bodily friendly and soul encouraging. I even noticed some of my life long struggle with depression easing up as I got more consistent with the classes. I would highly recommend this type of yoga for anyone who wants to feel more comfortable with her body and get an amazing workout at the same time.
